Introducing... Day Shift with Jeff Kober!
"We're going to shift your day with just a few words."
A Note from Rainn
Greetings, Intrepid Explorers of Soul Boom!
Last week, I teased the possibility of more content from our dear friend Jeff Kober. Well, guess what? Today, I’m thrilled to introduce our series Day Shift with Jeff Kober. That’s right, from now on you’ll get regular visits from Jeff, the actor/photographer/writer turned Vedic meditation teacher. This guy does it all, folks!
Below you’ll find the first episode as well as a transcription of his wise words. We hope you enjoy and benefit from his insights as much as I have.
Let us know what you think in the comments!
Till next time,
Rainn Wilson
Hi, this is Day Shift with Jeff Kober.
We're going to shift your day with just a few words. That's the whole point of this.
So today I'm going to talk about opinions. And the title might be, Who Am I Without Opinions?
So opinion is a noun, which means a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty.
That means any opinion that I hold is by definition an incomplete truth about the universe.
And yet our whole culture is founded around the idea that the more we know, the better our life becomes.
So when I grab onto an opinion and take an opinion as a definition of myself, or take your opinion as a definition of you, I have just cut myself off from growth.
I've cut myself off from having any kind of a new experience. I've cut myself off from learning. Because I'm saying to the universe and to you and to myself, “I've got it. I know this.”
And I actually have a standing agreement with a couple of friends that if they ever hear me say, “I got it,” they're supposed to slap me. I don't ever “get it.”
Consciousness, which is my experience of myself and of the universe, is an infinite experience. It's eternal. It can't possibly ever be fulfilled.
It can't possibly ever be complete.
There's always something new to learn. And when I hold on to an opinion as if it were the truth, I'm keeping myself from having any of that newness, having any of that growth that really is what turns us on as human beings, as expressions of consciousness, as expressions of the divine.
Everything here and all of us are here to experience the new, to step into the unknown and see how it goes. With the idea that when I step into the new and into the unknown, trusting that the universe, that nature, that the divine has my back, the experience I'm going to have will, by definition, be an upgrade from the experience I've been having. It's kind of the whole point of being here.
Today, I commit to stepping into a situation, into a conversation, with the idea of offering all my attention to the situation, or to my partner, or to the person I'm interacting with, as if they have something to teach me. And when I do that, it's a guarantee that they will.
Thanks so much for listening. Have a beautiful day.

Today, I'll be judgemental & make sure the step I take isn't off a cliff & go boom.
